GOT POP? - a model’s view on the top 50 couture designers in SL

Modavia Supermodel - Poptart Lilliehook

When I first took up my role of V.P. Fashion at Modavia, Dea’s first job for me was to pull together a shortlist of the best couture designers in SL. She gave me about 8 names of her favourite designers to get started with to which I added my own favourites. Next stop was the other 35 supermodels, each contributing their own favourite designer’s name to my list. I then spent the next few months going to every couture show/event and happening I could to try to gather enough nominations from the amassed fashionistas to be able to come to an opinion on the best of the best in SL. I readily concede that, during those 2 months, I was guilty of more indiscrete right clicking on, and scrutinising of, other people’s garments than any other avatar in SL. If you got the feeling that someone was watching you at Miss Universe pageant or at a kMAD show or at the Ewing Fashion Awards, or the ever-popular BOSL events, or pretty much just walking down the street… you were probably right. My thinking was that people vote with their feet (and their Lindens) so if they’re wearing it to a special occassion, then they must like it. My column in the inaugral edition of the Modavia Fashion Directory reflected the final list I settled on after many happy hours of looking, talking, shopping and wearing. My personal take, liberally informed by fashionable colleagues, on the Top 50 Couture Designers in SL.

There are so many fine designers in SL though who we know we might have overlooked or who do one or two things very well but who don’t yet have the breadth of collection to make it into the current Top 50. Our continued quest to honour the designers of SL who bring the finest of creativity and beauty to our SL wardrobes will play out through the year as we seek to add to, and further refine, our existing list - building to a Top 100 of designers by our first anniversary edition of the directory next year.

To this end, my blog site here GOT POP? (htp://www.i.getmodavia.com) will call each month for suggestions in a given category of fashion, say formal shoes, or men’s casual. Suggestions will be judged by our Fashion Review Board made up of Modavia Supermodels and invited guest judges. This is not just another vacuous contest - we earnestly believe that our reviews will act as a buying guide for all SL residents - steering people towards those designers who are truly striving for excellence. Please write to me and tell me about your favourite designer - and in particular, any exciting new talent on the grid that we can showcase. So here goes… these brands got the top votes in my personal straw poll.

300 Years of Fashion & Kyoot Army Sale

Posted on April 29th, 2008 in Keely LeFavre, Modavia Supermodels by Keely LeFavre

Wow! What an amazingly busy week I’ve had. After hosting the Sana Models fashion show on Saturday. I began preparing for the “300 Years of Style” Fashion show to benefit Relay for Life hosted by Lava Levasseur and Tiffany Dragonash. The show was quite a success raising $20K L for the cause.  Way to go ladies!  Here are some images from the event.

300 Years of Fashion300 Years of Fashion

After the kyoot army sale, I’ve been in embodying 1920s style.  What can I say? I was inspired.  My first look was my take on a badass female mobster.  And yes I was carrying a piece but… it got lost in the shots.

Usually, after a day or so I’m pretty much done with a look but I couldn’t seem to shake the 1920s. So, that lead me to create this second look.  I wanted more of a sexy showgirl persona and this digit darkes body suit was absolutely perfect.

Poses, Clothes, and skin

This has been one hellishly busy week! What with organizing a fashion show and starting up an agency, taking on more responsibility at Modavia, and helping style some new models I’ve barely had time to shop on my own. Much less have enough time to blog about what I’m wearing. But I have had the blog constantly on my mind so whenever I come up with a different look that I love I snap a couple of shots before I keep on moving.Part of the reason I haven’t bought quite as many clothes as I use too is because I’ve been a pose hound lately. I’m in process of opening up a photostudio, in addition to everything else I’ve got going on, so I’ve been to I think almost every animation store in SL I think. Some of my favorites are: Long Awkward Pose, Lost Angels, Imperial Elegance, Poseur, Juicy and Vista.

So during my absence, Armidi limited release a really hot new line of clothing that was just aching for me to whip together a sexy little outfit with. Here are some photos of me in a really nice pose ladder prop that I bought at Long Awkward Pose. I was bored so I went a little photoshop crazy. I had the pleasure to meet (formally) the owner of LAP yesterday, Dove Swanson, while shopping with a friend. Always awesome to randomly meet owners of stores I frequent, it’s like meeting a celeb.

A bit earlier this weekend, I didn’t have any “official” type of work to do so I wanted to wear something extremely fun. I picked this cute outfit and decided to try to create a slight neko look with my new skin from Sinister Skin but I think it came out more diclonius. I met Sinister Love during the week and help her create an extremely realistic dark skin that I just love.

Weekend Review

Posted on February 16th, 2008 in Modavia Supermodels by Keely LeFavre

Hi World!

Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple days. Now before you even think it; let me assure you that it was not because I forgot about the blog. Not at all! I just didn’t want to overrun the page with my posts so I thought I’d back off a little bit. In addition to that the lindens have been running a little low so I’ve put myself on a budget. Is that horrifying? Yes. Disgraceful? Most definitely! Necessary? Absolutely.

That means I’ve had to find myself a new part-time hobby to occupy my time. Since modeling, working on my column, and finding places to shop for the blog aren’t enough; I’ve decided to take up photography as well. Now, photography requires an intimate knowledge in how Photoshop works and let me confess that Photoshop and I are strained, casual acquaintances at best. So over the last few days I’ve been working hard and reading as many tutorials as possible and I think I’ve learned a few simple things to get me on my way. I’d love to know what you think. I’m going to be working more on editing and effects in the coming days so the quality is going to get much better.

Keely In Room - Photoshopped

In addition to photoshopping, I’ve had the pleasure, with a few other Modavia ladies, of being a part of the Bianca Foulon’s new campaign release. That means for 3 days this week I was doing in-store modeling for her new line of haute couture, runway skins and eyelashes. I was surprised at how much fun I had! I got to talk to so many people and spend time talking with a few Modavia ladies I didn’t know as well. And all of that while standing around looking glamorous; it was Heaven. Since I spent so much time at the store, I absolutely fell in love with the clothes. I’d recommend checking out the store everything just screams FABULOUS. I included a few shots from a couple of the days.

My store for this week is Ghost! by Triangle Caudron. I’ve always enjoyed Ghost’s clothing. The designs are innovative with eye catching textures and just a touch of the avant-garde. In other words - loved it! In my opinion, the clothes are extremely inexpensively priced so I racked up as much as I could while there; within budget of course *smile. What’s great about her desings is that she offers a few different options on how to wear the garments and that’s optimal for mixing and matching. I won’t put up any pictures since I’ve already put up a few, but seriously check it out. The clothes speak for themselves and they say “FASHION”.
