GOT POP? - a model’s view on the top 50 couture designers in SL

Posted on August 5th, 2008 in Modavia Supermodels, Poptart Lilliehook, Second Life Fashion, Second Life Model, Second Life Modeling by Poptart Lilliehook

Modavia Supermodel - Poptart Lilliehook

When I first took up my role of V.P. Fashion at Modavia, Dea’s first job for me was to pull together a shortlist of the best couture designers in SL. She gave me about 8 names of her favourite designers to get started with to which I added my own favourites. Next stop was the other 35 supermodels, each contributing their own favourite designer’s name to my list. I then spent the next few months going to every couture show/event and happening I could to try to gather enough nominations from the amassed fashionistas to be able to come to an opinion on the best of the best in SL. I readily concede that, during those 2 months, I was guilty of more indiscrete right clicking on, and scrutinising of, other people’s garments than any other avatar in SL. If you got the feeling that someone was watching you at Miss Universe pageant or at a kMAD show or at the Ewing Fashion Awards, or the ever-popular BOSL events, or pretty much just walking down the street… you were probably right. My thinking was that people vote with their feet (and their Lindens) so if they’re wearing it to a special occassion, then they must like it. My column in the inaugral edition of the Modavia Fashion Directory reflected the final list I settled on after many happy hours of looking, talking, shopping and wearing. My personal take, liberally informed by fashionable colleagues, on the Top 50 Couture Designers in SL.

There are so many fine designers in SL though who we know we might have overlooked or who do one or two things very well but who don’t yet have the breadth of collection to make it into the current Top 50. Our continued quest to honour the designers of SL who bring the finest of creativity and beauty to our SL wardrobes will play out through the year as we seek to add to, and further refine, our existing list - building to a Top 100 of designers by our first anniversary edition of the directory next year.

To this end, my blog site here GOT POP? (htp://www.i.getmodavia.com) will call each month for suggestions in a given category of fashion, say formal shoes, or men’s casual. Suggestions will be judged by our Fashion Review Board made up of Modavia Supermodels and invited guest judges. This is not just another vacuous contest - we earnestly believe that our reviews will act as a buying guide for all SL residents - steering people towards those designers who are truly striving for excellence. Please write to me and tell me about your favourite designer - and in particular, any exciting new talent on the grid that we can showcase. So here goes… these brands got the top votes in my personal straw poll.

Loving Linda

Posted on May 18th, 2008 in Modavia Supermodels by anessastine

PXL Linda Skins - Anessa Stine

It’s my first official post as part of this wonderful Modavia team, and I could not be more thrilled to have been selected to join this group of talented Models, Photographers, PR and Marketing Persons, Management and above all good friends. Anyone who has taken the time to chat me up while on the job can tell you that I am a generally fun loving person, I work hard at what I do and I try my best to build a reputation as a reliable model who is easy to work with. I love blogging, most notably my shoe blogging over at On Your Toes, but I rarely get a chance to talk about all the other things that make me so very happy.

Lately one of the things I have really been experimenting with is skins, for a very long time I only wore one series of skins and I still wear them… but with the addition of windlight to my little virtual world I found that I was looking at skins for different qualities. I must have one of those shapes that makes it very hard to find skins that suit it, but as soon as I found Linda and Crys by PXL, I knew I was in love.

With the upcoming release of the latest in the Linda line, Linda Dark, I jumped at the chance to have a sneak peak and share what I love so much about these skins. When Sunrae Moonbeam  answered my plea for a chance to preview the skins I was in bliss. The amazing lips on these skins give me such a perfect pout, even on the lighter lip shades like the gold (above and center) the lip remains well defined and doesn’t melt into the rest of the face even in the brightest of light. The eye options are appealing, and as much as I would love to see some colorful options I do have to admit that the well lined smokey eyes would be worn the most anyhow.

The bodies are well defined without too much muscularity and the skin tones offered are versatile and there is something for every taste. Which brings us to the Linda Dark, a delicious dark skin that although might not be shown to it’s best on my petite features, is definitely all the great things about Linda prior and adds a nice depth to complete this range of creamy skin tones.

Shown L-R; FashionTAN-Pink-Fashion Eyes, Light-Passion-Natural Eyes, SunKissed-Gold-SmokeEyes, Dark-CatEyes-DarkLips, Fair-Natural-DarkEyes. You can find Linda Skins in-world at PXL.

Thanks for reading!

Modavia Fashion Brief Released to the Top Fashion Designers in Secondlife

Posted on May 1st, 2008 in Modavia Supermodels by Jonny Tobias

NEWS RELEASE - April 30th 2008
For Immediate Release

CONTACT: Jonny Tobias

SUMMARY: The Modavia designers brief is released for Secondlife’s Top 50 high fashion designers to view.

The immediate release of the Modavia fashion designers brief is designed to give the top fashion designers of Secondlife an insight into the forthcoming Modavia Fashion Directory. The brief is used to showcase exactly how the Directory is destined to become the bible on Secondlife fashion. A panel of Modavia staff members conferred with each other and formed a list of the top 50 Haute Couture designers in Secondlife and then invitations were sent out to each designer to invite them to take part in this historic First edition of the Directory.

“I love the fashion industry and I particularly care about the success and well-being of fashion models and designers” said Modavia CEO, Dea Mills.

This statement is the embodiment of the aim of the Directory, a showcase for the top deisgners and models within Secondlife to be featured in a quality publication. Once the initial Directory is released, subsequent editions featuring the latest designs from the top designers in Secondlife will be featured and each edition will feature the Modavia Supermodels wearing these latest releases featuring in the consistently classy, stylistic format as presented in the initial Designers brief. Each ad is carefully constructed specifically with the designers creations foremost in mind. The Modavia Supermodels themselves are featured in the brief allowing the deisgners to become aquainted with the models who will be wearing and displaying their product inside the Directory itself.

An opening launch party for the first brief is currently in the works and will be an event to remember. The Modavia name will soon be one of the most important advertising tools for Fashion in the Secondlife Universe. The Modavia entity is synonymous with quality, and only the very ‘Best of the best’ in Secondlife Fashion will be featured. The simple, photo-rich, and less-on-text, uniform layout of the Directory allows the fashions to really jump out at the reader. Thus, the Directory will help your designs stand out in the crowd. The design and layout will be constructed by the team at Element design to a stringent standard of ensuring the highest quality.

Also there is the newly unveiled Modavia website which is where designers can access the designers brief at http://GetModavia.com to work in conjunction with the Modavia Supermodels blogging page at http://i.GetModavia.com

Marketing 101- Christieanna Daviau

As you PR Director I thought your should have the 101 of Self Marketing , Below are several tactics I and other Great SL Models, and Icons use.. Marketing wins every time- Ever wonder why Mcdonalds - a low class resturant with low valued food is an icon in the food industry with ever increasing revenue??? Marketing and Branding-

101: “Knowing how to market yourself will do more for your earnings and reputation than becoming better at what to do.” Don’t believe it? Think about the people in that are considered icons in there business- why? Well they have adoring fans-people who believe they are top of what they do. Do you think they really know more than you? Did they just happen to get lucky? Or were they savvy about how to promote themselves? There are Models, designers, builders, ect with mega talent and yet they do not succeed because they want people to just Ooggle over there greatness and be suddenly discovered-Truth-can happen- it is a rarity to be discovered. . This can be a tough truth to accept, particularly when you’re new in a field and still think superior knowledge will conquer the world. The sooner you get over I AM ALL KNOWING… the better you will be.

102: “Start now.” Why? Because this stuff takes time. Building blog circulation, getting people to notice you, cultivating your social network, working your way to be noticed is as it is in a sea full of all the same people with same aspirations. If you put it off until next week or next month, someone else who didn’t put it off is going to eclipse you, as you know one day in SL can make or break your career.

103: “If you have an exceptional talent, market yourself through exceptional means.” How many blogs are out there today? Just having a blog isn’t marketing any more; you need to do something different. Set yourself up as the expert on some subject, blog relevant articles on a regular basis, and mail the links to everyone who might be remotely interested: then a blog is worthwhile. Or use social networks or video links or something even more innovative. The goal of marketing is to stand out from the pack; you can’t, by definition, do this if you insist on doing exactly what everyone else does.

USE YOUR TOOLS!! Everyone has a niche- a place that they are knowledgeable and talented at- Do not focus on just one area of expertise alone- LEARN!!! Think about this- if you were an employer whom would you hire- A.) The person how is scholared in one area alone- and lacks in all others B.) The person who is expert in one area with off branches of various talents and  abilities. Easy. B

Network- People, Places, Partys,Media

Present Yourself Well. Be friendly, well organized, polite and act interested in what they have to say.

Learn Something. Be open to learn something from your contact, even if they know very little about the field you are interested in. .. Know this You will never know when someone outside your interest circle will be benifical to you. ASK QUESTIONS, BE INTERESTED IN THEIR TALENTS, OFFER YOUR SERVICES TO THEM..

Give something away for free. Really. You do this to build credibility and also to give people a taste of what you will charge them for. Someone need a model? need runway help, store ad help.. give them a sample of your ability.

Think about lists of useful stuff that you can offer others-   What you do for others has greater impact the what others do for you. People tend to feel obligated to return a favor in form of PR-Thus word of mouth begins. When I started Elements I helped models with free photos- Word of mouth Grew- and thoose simple acts  benifited me moreso.

Ask yourself these questions when you are meeting people, places or desire placement with people places

Who is your Target, Your Buyer? RESEARCH the people, places and icons-Who is the Who-More you know better you are.

What are the current needs or trends with these companies, How can you utilize, Enhance and add value?

What talents and skills can  you to offer an employer?

Develop a strategy that targets the needs of your audience.

Constantly re-evaluate your DIRECTON AND TARGET, and be prepared to make changes

We Are Modavia

I want you all to take a seat, grab on to something sturdy, calm the butterflies in your stomach and brace yourself. Why?  Because on March 20th the Modavia Designer’s Brief was launched marking the official launching of Modavia and the fashion world is going to quake.  I know everyone has heard whispers and there have been theories and the general consensus is that Modavia is just a modeling agency.  NOTHING could be further from the truth.  Modavia is SL’s FIRST Fashion directory.  It’s a directory featuring the best, the who’s who of the fashion world.  The most creative, innovative, popular designers and the most versatile, unique and sought-after models are featured all in this one place. Now I can’t give too much away even though it’s killing me, but I’ve been able to secure everyone a seek peek as to what a designer brief looks like.  You can only see this here. So get ready, get set, and….

(Excuse the quality of these pics I had to copy them)

Designer Brief P1Designer Brief P2Designer Brief p3Designer Brief p4Designer Brief p5Designer Brief p6Designer Brief P7

Ok, how hot do Barberella Fousing and Nicholai Shepard look in that pic?  Oh my GAWD it’s even getting hot in here.

Now one important announcement that we received at the launch party was the procurement of the illustrious, sensational, and innovative Christieanna Daviau as our new PR Director.  This is quite a coup for Modavia since Christieanna is sought after by most of the top agency and designers and for good reason.  She throws the best parties in SL, is an incredible person, an amazing photographer, and she’s done marketing for some of the most successful companies. We are truly lucky to have her talents exclusively.

I know I speak for all my Modavia “siblings’ when I say that I feel incredibly honored and privileged to be a part of Modavia.
